Paul Robinson raves about Leeds United deal for Junior Firpo
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has hailed Victor Orta for unearthing what he believes to be a great deal for Leeds United to sign left-back Junior Firpo.
EsportsRAC1 broadcaster Gerard Romero has reported that Firpo, 24, is set to join the Whites from Barcelona and will arrive in the UK to undergo a medical this weekend.
According to Sky Sports Italy’s Fabrizio Romano, the deal is going to cost Leeds £12.9million plus any extra add-ons that are agreed.
Robinson thought Leeds would have to invest quite heavily in signing a new left-back this summer but he’s blown away by how Orta’s been able to dig up Firpo for the price reported.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, he said: “He looks like a promising player and Leeds have done very well to keep it under wraps.
“For that type of price, I thought they would have to invest a lot more heavily in that area to get that quality.
“ But if they’re able to attract a player of that quality, it just shows the ability Victor Orta and his scouting network has.
“You look at the Raphinha signing and Rodrigo – you have to put your trust in them.”

Ezgjan Alioski’s contract at Leeds expired this week so signing a new left-back was always going to be at the top of the menu for Orta and Marcelo Bielsa.
Firpo is bound to be someone who would have been on their radar for a while and as Robinson said, they’ve managed to kept it under wraps for quite a while.
We saw several reports about an unnamed left-back being linked with a move to Elland Road – we assume it’s Firpo!
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are just one step away from this major new signing.
