Pundit reacts as Leeds United set for ‘huge’ appointment of Jesse Marsch amid Romano update
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson has told Leeds United fans to show faith in the club’s board to hire a suitable replacement for Marcelo Bielsa.
On Sunday (27 February), Bielsa’s exit from Elland Road was confirmed less than 24 hours after his side lost 4-0 to Tottenham and moved to be within two points of the Premier League’s relegation zone.
Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano has since reported that Leeds are moving quickly to find a replacement and have reached a verbal agreement with American manager Jesse Marsch.
It is understood that the ex-RB Leipzig manager’s work permit will be sorted within the coming hours for him to succeed Bielsa in charge at Leeds United.
Robinson wanted Bielsa to stay and says that Marsch will have big boots to fill at Elland Road.
However, the ex-Leeds goalkeeper maintains that he trusts the board to get the appointment right.
“I think anybody who comes in after Bielsa is going to be a risk. It’s going to have to be a huge appointment whoever it is,” said Robinson in an exclusive interview with MOT Leeds News.
“There was a lot of talk that it was going to run its course but for me, he should have stayed as long as he likes because of what he’d done for that football club.

“I’d have loved to have seen him stay again for another season.
“Jesse Marsch would be a risk to come in and manage a Premier League team but you have to do your due diligence on these people.
“You have to trust Victor Orta and you have to trust the owners of the club.
“They appointed Bielsa in the first place and that was a left-field appointment and look how right they got that.
“You have to trust the due diligence and research has been done on the next manager because whoever follows him has a huge pair of shoes to fill.”
