Patrick Bamford tipped for Leeds United exit by Thorp Arch insider

Leeds United will wait until the summer transfer window to secure an exit for striker Patrick Bamford, Paul Robinson has said.

The 31-year-old has yet to start a Championship game this season, only coming on as a substitute on six occasions, and has been struggling to stay fit since the campaign began.

While Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe are ahead of him in the pecking order, Robinson believes Leeds will not get rid of him during the January transfer window due to his experience in the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “If you’ve got a player who’s happy playing a bit-part in the squad then it’s not a deal you do during January. I don’t think Patrick Bamford is a January deal. That’s one to revisit in the summer.

“If the player is banging on the manager’s door, demanding to play or wanting to leave, you’ve got a problem. If you haven’t got a problem, you’ve got a proven, quality striker who does score goals in the Championship.

“If he doesn’t want out, there’s no reason to do a deal in January. Should that situation arise, that will be revisited in the summer. But unless the player forces it, it won’t be done in January.”

Could Leeds United sell Patrick Bamford next summer?

Bamford has notched 60 goals and 22 assists in 194 appearances for the Whites, having first arrived at Elland Road in the summer of 2018, but many believe it could be coming to an end.

The striker’s only start this season has come in the EFL Cup defeat to Middlesbrough in August, only playing 45 minutes of football since that moment.

With Leeds hoping to claim promotion to the Premier League this term, however, his experience could be crucial for the rest of the Championship campaign.
