Patrick Bamford return at Leeds United has every player saying same thing – Don Goodman
Don Goodman insists the return of Patrick Bamford will only get more out of fellow forward Mateo Joseph at Leeds United.
Joseph has started all six of Leeds’ Championship matches so far this season, while Bamford has been restricted to just two substitute appearances.
The latter was back on the subs’ bench for last weekend’s 2-0 win at Cardiff City following a month out injured.
And Goodman believes every player and manager thinks the same thing with regards to competition for a starting spot.
“Patrick coming back is brilliant because, ask any player or manager, they’ll tell you that serious competition for places does sharpen your mind,” he told MOT Leeds News.
“That’s a win-win for Leeds, and while Joseph hasn’t scored many goals, his performance levels would have pleased Daniel Farke.”
“There’s definitely a case to be made for Joseph to continue starting. He’s been a very big part of what has been, in the main, good performances that haven’t yielded the number of points they’ve deserved.“
Leeds United face Patrick Bamford dilemma
Daniel Farke has showed faith in Joseph, despite a return of just one goal across his 508 minutes of league action this term.
The youngster may not be scoring regularly, but he is contributing in other ways in terms of his link-up play and his three assists.

Bamford has been off the boil for a while now, and it makes sense for Farke to stick with Joseph while Leeds are in a decent enough run of form.
The Englishman will not be content with playing second-fiddle, but until he takes his opportunity and shows he can still be a prolific scorer, the shirt is Joseph’s to lose.
In other Leeds United news, Goodman issued some advice to a first-team player prior to the Cardiff game.
