Pascal Struijk transfer news causes outrage after ‘nonsensical’ Leeds update

Paul Robinson has blasted reports linking Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk with a Premier League move ahead of the January transfer window.

Tottenham, Brighton and Wolves are all interested in the 25-year-old defender, according to CaughtOffside, with a £25million offer likely to be enough to seal a deal.

Struijk has started all 21 of Leeds’ Championship matches so far this season but he could be a doubt to face Oxford United on Saturday 21 December, which has several fans worried.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “There’s no way he leaves in January, and people in football clearly have short memories. 12 months ago, he couldn’t even get into the Leeds squad and now, he’s been captain and an integral part of the squad.

“From a Tottenham point of view, I don’t think he’s good enough for that level. He wasn’t good enough to get into the Leeds side in the Premier League and was receiving a lot of criticism as Leeds were conceding a lot of goals.

“He’s not that level so I’d be surprised if he went to a Premier League team. As for Leeds, he’s been an integral part of the dressing room and on the pitch. With the value he adds to the potential of gaining promotion, it’s completely nonsensical.”

Pascal Struijk only good enough for Leeds United in the Championship?

It’s a bold call by Robinson, but given Struijk’s previous experiences in the Premier League, Farke will have a tough decision to make on his centre-back if Leeds can secure promotion this term.

However, having taken the captain’s armband temporarily and proven his ability to stay off the treatment table, he may have enough knowledge and experience to be the defender that the Whites need next year.

The transfer interest is certainly a situation to keep an eye on, especially as the January transfer window draws near, but a move next month seems highly unlikely.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites must sell a player Marcelo Bielsa called “influential”, his potential replacement already has 13G/A this season.
