'Outstanding... magnificent' – Exclusive: Pundit picks Leeds MotM v Villa & it's not Bamford
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Patrick Bamford made all the headlines in the game against Villa when he scored his first Premier League hat-trick in a 3-0 win.
However, MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson thinks he was only the second-best player on the pitch behind Luke Ayling.
The right-back was played out of position in the centre of defence and the stand-in captain put in what Robinson called an “outstanding” display.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I thought he was absolutely outstanding against Aston Villa and he was playing out of position.
“The way he adapted to the role at centre-back, the leadership he showed, the fact he was out of position yet he looked totally in control at all times… I thought he was magnificent.

“Patrick Bamford scored all three goals and got all the plaudits – and rightly so – but I don’t think he was the best player in a Leeds shirt on Friday.
“I thought Luke Ayling was the man-of-the-match. Performance-wise you just can’t look past him. I thought he was outstanding. It was a real captain’s performance.”
Ayling signed for Leeds for less than £1m for Bristol City but he’s already proved he belongs in the Premier League.
He’s made 160 appearances for the club now and could well start in the centre of defence again if Liam Cooper is ruled out of the game against Leicester.
