We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has hailed the performance from Pablo Hernandez in the second half against Fulham as “outstanding” and “his best 43 minutes of the season”.

Hernandez came on at half-time and had a huge impact on the game, setting up Jack Harrison for Leeds’ third.

He was taken off before the end but this was just precautionary and he should be fit for the game against Luton on Tuesday.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I thought Leeds were very good. That’s exactly how I expected them to play against Cardiff but it took them a game to get back into it.

“They were good going forward, they were clinical and they were by far the better team. They were strong, they dominated possession, took their chances. I predicted they’d score three, I just didn’t predict a clean sheet.”

Asked whether Hernandez should be man-of-the-match, Robinson said, “Got to be. He came on and made a massive difference. You can see how they’re relying on him at times.

“To see him go off before the end and put ice on his ankle or knee, that was slightly worrying, you hope it was a precaution due to how important he is.

“You could say he should have started the game but it was a masterstroke by Bielsa. He made the changes at half time that he felt he needed to make, took Bamford off, took Costa off, brought Hernandez on and I thought he was outstanding.

“It was probably his best 43 minutes of the season. He was outstanding. That performance, the second half performance from him, is exactly what Leeds needed.”

A massive performance from Hernandez helped secure a massive three points in the quest for promotion.

After losing to Cardiff the week before, this was a game that Leeds couldn’t really afford to lose.

The 3-0 victory is a real marker in the sand and Leeds will go into the next game, against Luton on Tuesday, with a huge boost of confidence.
