Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow to have different medical as Leeds United close to signing him – Injury Expert

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Leeds United...

Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow will have a strength and conditioning based medical as he looks to join Leeds United, claims Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert has detailed the specifics of a medical for a goalkeeper as the 32-year-old will have to undergo one before being announced as a new signing.

Fabrizio Romano wrote on July 27 that the Englishman was due to undergo his medical on Thursday before officially joining as a new Leeds player.

Darlow will be the second player to join Leeds this summer after they signed Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said on Roberts, “The big difference in his medical will be in the strength and conditioning program as a keeper has different physical and mental demands than other players.

“Apart from that, the medical for a goalkeeper will be very similar to other positional players at baseline.

Darlow’s arrival puts immediate doubts on the future of Illan Meslier at Elland Road who’s not been at his best in the past few months.

The Frenchman, 23, made a series of errors towards the back end of the 2022/23 season and eventually lost his spot to Joel Robles.

With the Spaniard leaving the club after his contract expired, on paper, Meslier still appears to be the first choice.

However, with Darlow arriving and unlikely to settle for second fiddle, the Whites may decide to loan out the French keeper or sell him if they get a good deal.

In other Leeds United news, an update has emerged on the club’s pursuit to sign two centre-backs this summer with a winger now on the radar as well.
