We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson has said that Helder Costa was “miles off it” for Leeds against Crawley but said that he wasn’t the only player who was terrible against Crawley.
Leeds were humiliated 3-0 by the League Two side in yet another FA Cup disaster.
It’s a competition that Marcelo Bielsa still hasn’t won in.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “Helder Costa was poor and he has been for a while.
“He lost his place in the Premier League side and this was his opportunity to prove to Bielsa that he deserves another chance.
“He wasn’t the only one who played terribly on Sunday but he hasn’t played well for a while now.
“In fact, the only player who could come out with any semblance of dignity from the game was Pablo Hernandez.
“As an all-round team performance, I thought Leeds were terrible. Helder Costa was absolutely miles off it.
“Saying all that, it’s not a game I’ll be losing a lot of sleep over. I’m glad they’re out of the cup and they can now concentrate on the Premier League.
“I said that I didn’t think a cup run would be a good thing for Leeds this season and I don’t have to worry about it now.”
Costa has had a couple of performances this season where he proved that Leeds might not regret paying £16m for him – notably against Aston Villa.
However, he hasn’t really hit top form since and he has been displaced by Raphinha on the right-wing.
On his current form, we think he’ll be below Jack Harrison, Ian Poveda and Gjanni Alioski too.
