Mateo Joseph told he has a future at Leeds United amid Spain development

Mateo Joseph will play a much more important role for Leeds United next season after being cleared for Spain’s Olympics team this summer, Paul Robinson has said.

According to the Daily Mail [13 June], the 20-year-old forward has been cleared to be called up to the Spain squad for this summer’s Olympics in Paris.

Daniel Farke did not hand Joseph a single start in the Championship last season but he did impress against Chelsea in the FA Cup. He now has a chance to perform on one of the biggest stages this summer.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “He’s still a young player and was a bit-part player this season. Any international recognition is good, especially at the Olympics. There’s a huge buzz around that, with the football side growing very quickly.

“For a player like Joseph, it’s an opportunity for him to showcase his talent on a wider level. Whether he gets his chance next season… I think he will. He’ll get more game time, but how much depends on which players move on.

“If Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto move on, and there’s space in the squad and the starting XI for that type of player, I think he’ll get more game time. His future is at Leeds. He played an important role at times.

“I think he’ll be part of the first team next season. The way the squad needs to be manipulated, and the fact that he’s not a player the manager will want to lose, he’ll play more this season than he did in the last.”

Will Mateo Joseph be given a better opportunity at Leeds United next season?

Considering his performance when given a chance by Farke, Joseph certainly deserves to be trusted more in front of the Elland Road crowd.

Mateo Joseph was unlucky not to find the back of the net for Leeds United against Stoke City

Despite his young age, he is absolutely fearless and could be given the opportunity to prove himself on one of the biggest international stages this summer.

If he is able to take the chance with both hands, it may give Farke something to think about ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
