Marcelo Bielsa to rest star players for Leeds United clash v Arsenal – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.

Paul Robinson expects Marcelo Bielsa to ring the changes when he names his Leeds United side to face Arsenal at the Emirates on Tuesday night.

Leeds face Mikel Arteta’s side knowing that a win in North London will take them into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

However, Robinson predicts Bielsa to make plenty of changes to the starting line-up that drew with Wolves at Elland Road in the Premier League on Saturday.

Leeds have numerous injury issues right now and due to their poor league form, Bielsa may have to make certain adjustments to the team on Tuesday night.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News about changes, Robinson said: “It’s very much needed.

They need to change it up, play squad players and they have to prioritise the league.

I didn’t expect Leeds to be in the bottom four at this stage of the season and I think the manager would have wanted them to be sitting mid-table going into the Arsenal game with an opportunity to progress in the cup.

It frustrates me as an ex-player to look now at the opportunities that teams have to win some silverware and the Carabao Cup is a perfect opportunity. A lot of managers do it a disservice.

Manchester City take it seriously every year and win most years.

For Leeds, it would have been fantastic to be mid-table and be able to go to Arsenal with a full-strength side and have a real go but they can’t afford to.

They need to keep players fit and priorities the league because staying in the Premier League is of vital importance to Leeds at the moment.”
