‘Long may that continue’ – Exclusive: Paul Robinson hails one player after Leeds win v Millwall
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has hailed Patrick Bamford after a match-winning performance against Millwall that saw him score two goals.
They were his first goals since the 2-1 defeat to Fulham before Christmas and helped complete a brilliant comeback after Leeds went in at half-time 2-0 down.
The win puts Leeds back on top of the league with new striker signing Jean-Kevin Augustin waiting on the sidelines.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “There has been a lot of pressure and a lot of weight on Bamford’s shoulders, especially since Nketiah left.
“I think the fans have generally been good with him, the fans have got behind him when he’s playing well, but there is a high level of expectation on you when you’re playing for Leeds.
“When you’re the guy who is meant to be scoring the goals to fire Leeds into the Premier League, there’s even more pressure on you.
“Bamford is a confidence player. He thrives on confidence and when things are going well for him he finds a way to find the back of the net. Long may that continue.”
Bamford has come in for criticism from fans this season but he showed it wasn’t affecting him after he put his gloves over his ears after scoring his first goal last night.
Bamford’s brace should be enough to keep him in the starting XI against Wigan on Saturday.
Leeds signed Jean-Kevin Augustin and he was at Elland Road to watch the game last night but he will surely have to wait for his first start.
However, we do expect Augustin to be on the bench and we can’t wait to see what he’s got in his locker.
