Liam Cooper and Patrick Bamford predicted to start in Leeds United clash v Brentford - Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson expects Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper to start for Leeds United in their clash against Brentford in West London on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds captain Cooper, 31, is yet to feature this season due to injury but Jesse Marsch told the media on Thursday (1 September) that the Scotland centre-back has trained this week and could be fit to play at the Brentford Community Stadium [LeedsLive].

Bamford, 28, returned from his latest setback as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Everton and Marsch has hinted that the England striker could start against Thomas Frank’s side.

Robinson agrees that both Cooper and Bamford should start if they get the green light from Leeds’ medical team ahead of kick-off in the capital.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, the former goalkeeper said: “They’re key players and if they pass their fitness test then they play.

When they’ve not had Bamford, Leeds have struggled and I think if he’s fit, he plays.

Cooper is a voice – he’s a leader. In the last two seasons, they’ve lacked that leadership on the field.

In the same way as Bamford, if Cooper’s fit, he should play too.

These games define your season. If you look at where Leeds are, they want to stay in the Premier League and they want to improve on last season.

Games against Manchester City, Liverpool and Spurs aren’t season-defining, these are the games where you need the points.

If these two players are fit, they come in.”

Bamford barely played last season due to numerous injury issues and his return to fitness coincides with Rodrigo suffering a shoulder injury against Everton earlier this week.

Cooper hasn’t played this season yet but Diego Llorente’s form has been a worry among Leeds fans with the Spaniard largely at fault for Anthony Gordon’s goal on Tuesday.
