Leeds United ‘worst-case scenario’ shared as Daniel Farke sack mooted at Elland Road

Paul Robinson believes Daniel Farke’s job at Elland Road is safe, even if Leeds United are unable to secure Premier League promotion via the play-offs this season.

Leeds missed out on automatic promotion as Leicester City and Ipswich Town finished in the top two Championship spots, with Farke’s side losing to Southampton on the final day of the season.

The Whites head into their play-off semi-final second leg against Norwich City on Thursday 16 May off the back of a 0-0 stalemate at Carrow Road, with the tie finely balanced before the clash at Elland Road.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson is adamant that the German’s job is safe whatever happens this season, saying: “He’s proven enough this season that he’s the man who would potentially take Leeds back up to the Premier League. We’re all hoping he manages to do that.

“In the worst-case scenario, he’s shown enough this season. He needs credit for the pre-season too. There were players like Wilfried Gnonto who didn’t want to be at the club and refused to play and train.

“He’s turned him back around and put his form back to where you would expect it to be at this stage in the season, back to the player he was last season. His man-management has a lot to do with that.

“There were lots of signings. Gruev came in, Joe Rodon, and Ampadu in, and Connor Roberts was a great signing in January. The manager knows the league and how to get out of it. If they don’t get out this season, they’ve come very close. I don’t see why there would be any call for a change.”

Will Daniel Farke survive if Leeds United miss out on promotion?

As Robinson states, Farke knows the Championship inside and out, top to bottom. His experiences with the Canaries will give him the edge to get out of the division, whether that be this season or the next.

Leeds have been playing some brilliant football this season, and to secure 90 points and still miss out on automatic promotion will feel like a massive blow at Elland Road.

However, the squad must be able to take it on the chin and rediscover their previous form from earlier in the season. Leeds had to wait until April to suffer their first home defeat, which is extremely impressive.

This kind of form and mindset will certainly be needed if Leeds are to pip Norwich to the final, and then beat either Southampton or West Brom to secure promotion to the Premier League ahead of the 2024/25 season.
