Leeds United worry emerges after failed Deadline Day transfers, ‘they didn’t bite the bullet’
David Norris is worried about the size of the Leeds United squad now that the summer transfer window has closed.
Daniel Farke has 23 first-team players to work with after the club’s late transfer window activity, but the total remains lower than all of their Championship competitors.
The combined market value of the squad is still ranked second behind Burnley [Transfermarkt], with quality, but not so much quantity, in their ranks.
Exclusively speaking to MOT Leeds News, Norris said: “I’m still concerned about the size of Leeds’ squad – it’s bigger than before but still the smallest in the league, and I’m not sure how that might affect them.
“They didn’t get everyone they wanted on deadline day and it’s a good job they managed to get a couple over the line. I personally thought another striker was a must with Patrick Bamford’s injury record.
“I just feel like they didn’t bite the bullet with paying over the odds for players and tried to do too much on the last day.”
Leeds United have smallest squad in the Championship
Leeds United were at least able to bulk out their squad with some decent quality in the final days of the window – Isaac Schmidt, Manor Solomon, Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka are all exciting recruits.
However, if injuries begin to plague the Whites, Farke will be tearing his hair out with a lack of options.
The German has already hinted that there has been some friction behind the scenes in relation to transfers, and any potential tension bubbling away with 49ers Enterprises could come to a head if he loses options from his squad.

Norris claims the club needed another striker – which could be the case if Farke decides to change his shape for two up front – but Leeds for now likely have more pressing issues in the centre of defence, with only Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and the exit-linked Max Wober, supplemented by academy boys.
It remains to be seen how much the team do suffer with being stretched throughout the long and gruelling campaign – it could be that they get away with a bit of luck and storm the division with the undoubted first-choice firepower they possess. Or it goes the other way.
