Leeds United windfall update after new broadcaster deal emerges
Leeds United may benefit slightly from the new ITV broadcasting deal in the Championship, Dan Plumley has said.
The football finance expert admits it is more of a deal between ITV and Sky Sports, who featured Leeds’ win against Sheffield Wednesday simultaneously.
Plumley admits the appeal is getting more people watching games on free-to-air channels, which is where the clubs can benefit more.
“My understanding is that there is very little financial benefit to the clubs,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“That is because the deal is with Sky itself and the deal between Sky and ITV is they can broadcast simultaneously, so it’s more of a wider eyes-on-screen angle for the EFL.
Leeds United set for new windfall at Elland Road?
“You can see the appeal of that, we have spoken about the importance of free-to-air broadcasting still in modern-day football so there is some benefit there for the club, but less so financially.”

Paraag Marathe and the 49ers Enterprises will likely welcome any windfall streams, but the truth is they have more than enough power behind them.
With promotion to the Premier League on the line, it could see the Americans pump millions into the Yorkshire club, starting with the expansion of Elland Road.
Broadcasting deals bring great power, especially in the Premier League and that is where Leeds need to return to if they want to hit that next level.
