Leeds United will be in trouble with no more signings, Ivan Toney would change that – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has insisted that going into the new Premier League season without a new striker would spell big trouble for Leeds United.

The ex-Whites stopper did admit that bringing in Brentford talisman Ivan Toney could change all of that though, and would bring big confidence to the squad alongside Patrick Bamford.

It comes after Dean Jones told the Football Terrace that Leeds may need to bid close to £50million to bring the controversial striker to Elland Road.

“I think with Patrick’s injury record, you can’t rely on him playing a full season,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“They would be very naive to go into the season without back-up or competition for him. I think if they could lure Ivan Toney in that would be a good signing, that would give you a little bit more confidence.

“If they lose Jack Harrison on top of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips and don’t go into the season with a back-up striker, they will be in trouble. If a player of his quality comes in, you look at it in a different light.”

Little chance.

Jesse Marsch is said to be keen on Toney, but his chances are slim to none of making this happen.

Leeds and Brentford are far from on the same page, and it is well known that it is always harder to take one of the best players from one of your rivals.

Also, paying nearly £50million would be disastrous in the sense that it would hand Brentford a war chest and it would give the Whites an ageing striker who only has one good Premier League year behind him.

As things stand, the striker is the main priority.

Club Brugges wonder Charles De Ketelaere and Paris Saint-Germain talent Arnaud Kalimuendo are the two to watch, keep an eye on those.
