Leeds United to build side around Piroe in new position – Exclusive

Joel Piroe was a crucial figure for Leeds United in their promotion campaign.

With the transfer window open, Leeds will be no stranger to the task that awaits them ahead of their Premier League return.

Recruitment at Elland Road will be crucial, though decisions will need to be made on those who spent the previous campaign with the Whites as well.

Piroe will be a target for several sides this summer

Piroe registered an incredible 26 goal contributions last season, and while it certainly benefited them in their hunt for promotion, it will have also alerted sides around Europe to his ability.

The likelihood is that the Dutchman will remain at Leeds, but Paul Robinson believes there will be sides sniffing around for his signature.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think there will be interest in Piroe, but I think it would take a decent offer, a very big offer, to get him out of Leeds.

“He was an integral part of what they did in the Championship last season. And for me, you keep him, and you build a team around him in the Premier League.

“Players like Piroe will be important because they know Daniel Farke, they know how he plays, they know the system he wants to play. Whether he plays as a nine, I don’t think he will. I think he’ll be a 10 next year.

“I think they will sign a number nine. It would take a big bid, I think, for Leeds to even consider selling him because he’s been such an integral part.”

Farke needs to maintain promotion-winning squad

Leeds need reinforcements, and to achieve that, they will need to sell, but keeping the majority of the side that got them to the Premier League will be crucial.

Squad harmony and connection can be a difference maker in the relegation battle, which is the task that likely awaits the Whites next season.

All eyes will be on Elland Road this summer, with plenty of movement expected.
