Leeds United transfer window call made by expert after Gelhardt comments
Leeds United will remain relatively quiet in the final days of the transfer window unless solid opportunities crop up in either direction, according to Ian Darke.
The TV commentator, speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, believes there will be no massive shopping spree for Daniel Farke’s side although interest does remain in a potential arrival or two.
Darke had said earlier in the window that after sanctioning the loan exit of Joe Gelhardt across Yorkshire to Hull City, it would also be unlikely Leeds would be interested in letting any other first-teamers go.
Unless a loan opportunity crops up for an out-of-favour player, he expects the Whites’ stance to remain the same, as well as refraining from any major buys unless they can drastically improve the squad.
“I don’t think Leeds are interested in any sales in the last few days of the window, unless it’s a player getting no game time, maybe for a loan like they’ve done with Gelhardt,” he said.
“They want the squad depth to stay there, and I think Farke still remains happy with where he is based on what we said before, so I’d be surprised if they were particularly busy in the market in either direction.”
Leeds United state of play in the winter window
So far in the transfer window, only Gelhardt’s loan departure has inked anything at all on Leeds United’s deal sheet.
Josuha Guilavogui’s free agent signing in October remains the latest arrival Leeds have completed, although links have intensified over a striker – namely Southampton’s Cameron Archer, who is wanted by several Championship clubs and Farke is hopeful (Ben Jacobs, 31 January).

Sonny Perkins, who was lauded with high hopes as a youngster at Elland Road, is reportedly set to make his move to Leyton Orient a permanent switch (Sean Whetstone, 30 January).
In other Leeds news, the Whites are said to have “dodged a bullet” over interest in a fellow Championship club’s talismanic striker.
