Leeds United transfer update emerges after Red Bull announcement
Dan Plumley has insisted that the new Red Bull deal will ease pressure on Leeds United needing to sell players this summer.
It has been reported that the Whites will need to raise up to £100million in player sales after failing to earn promotion back to the Premier League [Daily Mail].
The finance expert did admit that some players will still need to leave Elland Road, but such large fees have been offset by the record-breaking commercial deal [LWOS].
“It takes the pressure off a little bit,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“I felt the £100m firesale was a little bit high, I know there are a lot of transfer creditors owed in the accounts, and of course missing out on the revenue of getting back to the Premier League but they’ve still got year two and three of parachute payments to come.
“The Red Bull deal on top of that from a sponsorship point of view, it offsets is the best way to frame it, so if you are looking to sell players, you want the transfer fee to be as high as possible, that’s the basic starting point, but all the other things you’re doing to generate revenue along the way can offset the need to sell every single player.
“I would expect some outgoings and Leeds will be pretty confident of getting a good price for those players who they think can and need to move on, but the deals like the Red Bull one mean if you’re going to increase the revenue line, that maybe means less pressure to sell as well on the other side of it.”
