Leeds United: Four new Elland Road signings mooted this summer in ‘huge’ Don Goodman claim

Don Goodman believes Leeds United should consider bringing in four new first-team-ready signings if they are promoted to the Premier League.

Leeds occupy second spot in the Championship after a remarkable run of form this calendar year, having taken 34 points from the 36 on offer.

Daniel Farke’s side already have a squad crammed full of Premier League-quality players, but Goodman expects them to strengthen further.

“It’s a bit like any football club in that if you stand still you go backwards,” he told MOT Leeds News.

“If they are to play in the Premier League, which everyone from a Leeds persuasion hopes is the case, they will undoubtedly need to strengthen.

Wolves the transfer model to follow for Leeds United

Goodman added: “They’ll need to strengthen all around, in every department. We’ve seen the struggles of the three promoted clubs this season.

“If you put those three clubs into the Championship this season, they’d have found it a lot harder to get the success they had last season.

“But there’s no doubt that if you’re a promoted club then you have to spend wisely.

“I really like what Wolverhampton Wanderers did – and I’m not just saying that because they’re a team I care about.

“When they won promotion from the Championship, they added just four players, but they were four players to go straight into the starting XI.

“I look at Burnley and I see so many changes, so many new players. That’s part of their problem.

“The template for a team that does well, like Leeds and Leicester, is not to change everything but get say four players to improve that starting XI.

“There’s no doubt that Leeds will have the buying power and attraction. They’re a huge, huge football club.

“Hopefully attracting top quality players here won’t be an issue if they are promoted to the Premier League.”

Leeds United set for busy transfer window if promoted to Premier League

There is an argument to be had that Leeds’ current squad – or at very least the most used 13 or 14 players – is better than last season’s.

Naturally, some who perhaps struggled in the top flight have performed better against lesser opponents.

Others have come in, meanwhile, such as Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu and undoubtedly made the Whites stronger defensively.

Then you have someone like Archie Gray, who had not even made his senior bow this time last year and is now one of Farke’s star men.

As Goodman says, though, Leeds cannot afford to sit still if they do go up. Football is brutal, and some of those regulars will be replaced.

It must also be factored in that a few players are only on loan, so tying them down to permanent deals will likely be top of the agenda.

It certainly makes for an exciting summer from a fan’s perspective if the Whites achieve their mission of going straight back up.
