Leeds United: Don Goodman issues advice to Burnley ace Connor Roberts amid Elland Road transfer links

We’re delighted to welcome EFL expert and former striker Don Goodman as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Elland Road.

Burnley defender Connor Roberts is a “top, top player” who would benefit from a January transfer to Leeds United, according to Don Goodman.

Roberts is midway through his third season at Turf Moor after arriving from Swansea City and has made 86 appearances in that time.

The Wales international played a big part in the Clarets’ promotion last season, earning a place in the Championship Team of the Season.

However, Roberts has started just eight of Burnley’s 20 Premier League matches this season, with Vitinho now Vincent Kompany’s preferred right-back.

According to The Mirror [11 January, page 53], Burnley are open to offers for the 28-year-old this month, as the defender has not started since October.

The report adds that Leeds are interested in Roberts and the player would be open to a move to Elland Road.

Discussing the possible transfer with MOT Leeds, Goodman said: “I think it would be a good move for both the player and the club.

“I’ve watched Connor’s development up close at Swansea and I’ve seen him get better and better and better.

“That culminated in last season when he was absolutely sensational for Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.

“He’s a really, really good player at both ends of the pitch. He’s educated himself and is a real top, top full-back at Championship level.

“He’s not getting an opportunity at the moment in the Premier League and it’s therefore in his best interests to get himself out.

“I’m born and bred Leeds United, so I’d say there’s no better place for him to go than Elland Road!”

In other Leeds United news, Goodman has been wowed by another piece of “great” business conducted at Elland Road.
