Leeds United transfer news as Finance Expert loves Nadiem Amiri twist from 49ers

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Dan Plumley has insisted it was refreshing to see Leeds United and the 49ers Enterprises wrestle back some power in their pursuit of Nadiem Amiri.

The Bayer Leverkusen was flown into West Yorkshire by the club to seal a move in the final week of the window, but when it didn’t after a twist in talks, they told him to make his own way home [Phil Hay].

The finance expert admitted he was an advocate of clubs taking back more power from players and agents, with this move perfectly reasonable by the 49ers.

“In many ways, it’s refreshing to see that,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“I’ve been an advocate for some time of clubs wrestling back more control in negotiations in the transfer market.

We know how powerful players are nowadays and how powerful agents are and it seems to be that the club doesn’t seem to hold much power at all.

Actually, in this instance, I think it’s a nice change to read a story like that, obviously you want the transfer to work out if the player is good enough, and why not offer to fly them out? But, if it doesn’t work out, sorry that’s on you and that is perfectly reasonable.

It’s not the norm, but I think there is some credit there to Leeds and how they are operating to wrestle back some of the power from a club perspective that is somewhat lost in the market a little bit.”
