Leeds United told to bomb Kiko Casilla out of Elland Road once financial settlement reached – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has backed Leeds United to agree a “financial settlement” with Kiko Casilla to terminate his contract at Elland Road.

Casilla, 35, spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Elche in Spain’s La Liga but only managed to make 15 appearances in all comeptitions.

The former Real Madrid goalkeeper is in the final year of his contract at Elland Road and while Robinson claims that contract is worth a lot of money for the Spaniard, the Sky Sports pundit feels it’s the best resolution for everyone that his deal is terminated as soon as possible.

“I think Leeds will try to terminate his contract but I think Kiko will want to keep his contract because it’s a decent whack he’s on,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

He’s on decent wages for somebody who hasn’t played and hasn’t been near the squad.

There’s got to be some kind of resolution to put it to an end.

They’ve got to cut their losses and just cut their ties and allow him to leave. There’s obviously no future for him at Leeds.

I don’t think there’s any way back into the side or onto the bench for him. That ship has sailed and I think it’s best for everybody if ties are cut and some kind of agreement is reached.

This is going to have to be a financial settlement because he’s got 12 months on his contract. He’s not going to walk away from that.”

Casilla dropped down the pecking order in Leeds’ first season back in the Premier League as he played just five times in all competitions for Marcelo Bielsa.

That came after the Spaniard was found to have racially abused Jonathan Leko in the Championship and was hit with an eight-match ban by the FA.

On top of that, the goalkeeper’s performances on the pitch for Leeds were atrocious.

Illan Meslier is now Leeds undisputed number one goalkeeper after a shameful couple of years at Elland Road for Casilla.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are ready to hijack an £8.5million transfer to sign a new forward from South America.
