Leeds United to take player-plus-cash deal as Archie Gray transfer lined up

Leeds United would require an Oliver Skipp-plus-cash deal if they were to sell Archie Gray to Tottenham this summer, Paul Robinson has said.

According to The Athletic [13 June], the Whites’ PSR concerns could mean the club might be willing to sell their 18-year-old star and replace him with Skipp ahead of next season.

While Gray has been a standout figure for Leeds, the Spurs midfielder only made five Premier League starts in the latest season, though he does have history with Daniel Farke during their time at Norwich.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “For Tottenham, it would be an outstanding signing. For Leeds, it would be a bad decision. Oliver Skipp has had limited game time at Tottenham this season, has been a bit-part player, and looks like one of the players that the manager will move on this summer.

“If it were to happen, it would need to be Oliver Skipp plus a decent amount of money for Leeds to be interested in letting Archie Gray go. Skipp’s a good player, in a similar mould to what Harry Winks was at Tottenham. He didn’t get his opportunity, has since moved on and found his place at Leicester City.

“You can see a similar thing happening with Skipp, but I certainly wouldn’t want to see Leeds let Archie Gray go for anything less than a substantial amount of money that works for the club.

“I think another season in the Championship would be good for his development and progression. From a Leeds United point of view, it would have to be a very tempting amount of cash to make the deal happen.”

Could Leeds United replace Archie Gray with Oliver Skipp this summer?

Gray is one of the last players the Elland Road faithful will want to see exit the club this summer, though their Championship and PSR statuses will be a defining factor in the transfer window.

Oliver Skipp had a tough season at Spurs last year

Multiple stars have already been linked with an exit, with the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto all expected to move on.

While Skipp is still young, his prospects have dipped since breaking into the Tottenham fold, and Gray holds much more potential, which will make it much harder for Leeds to keep hold of him.

In other Leeds United news, the club have been backed to sign a “terrific” free transfer this summer despite interest from Rangers.
