Leeds United to splash millions after Nico Elvedi transfer update – Insider

Daniel Farke would strengthen his Leeds United squad with the signing of defender Nico Elvedi, Paul Robinson has said.

The Leeds manager wants to sign the Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back, as per BILD [3 January], having worked together during their time in the Bundesliga.

While the 28-year-old has an £8.2million release clause, Monchengladbach are willing to listen to offers for the Swiss international, and it is understood Elvedi dreams of a move abroad [Sport Bild].

Robinson believes the Whites could secure a bargain deal for cheaper than that, with days left until the 3 February transfer deadline.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “He’s a good option – I like him. At 28 years old, at Monchengladbach, he’s come to the peak of his game. He’s an experienced centre-half, who reads the game very well.

“The thing for Elvedi is that he’s not a ball-playing centre-half but he is comfortable with the ball at his feet. The way that Farke wants to play, he fits into that system.

“He’s contracted until 2027 with Monchengladbach so there will be a fee, likely a decent fee. I think they’d have to pay between £5million-£6million, but at the top of the Championship, it’s a sound investment to get to the Premier League.

“He’d be a good addition to the squad.”

Leeds United to solve injury concerns with Nico Elvedi transfer?

Following Pascal Struijk’s injury scare, a few concerns were emerging about how much depth Farke currently has available in the centre of defence.

While the Dutchman’s setback is not as serious as first thought [Beren Cross], Leeds are attempting to secure promotion back to the Premier League, so they cannot afford any hitches like last season.

Elvedi, who has over 300 appearances for Monchengladbach and 56 caps for Switzerland, would immediately soften those concerns if the Whites were to splash out on the defender.
