Leeds United ‘to sign Josh Sargent’ under one condition – Exclusive

Josh Sargent could be a Leeds United player next season after the Norwich City star was linked with a move to Elland Road.

Leeds will have their only focus on securing promotion back to the Premier League, though with six games to go, things need to improve as a matter of urgency.

Daniel Farke‘s side have won just one of their last six, with their latest 1-1 draw with Luton Town doing nothing to subdue the concerns that have emerged over the last few weeks.

However, with or without promotion, Leeds will be looking to sign a new striker, and depending on one situation, that addition could be Sargent.

Sargent of interest to Leeds United

Leeds have already been linked with a move for Sargent, though Paul Robinson thinks that any deal will hinge on the division in which the Whites are playing their football next season.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “He’s a player that if Leeds, for whatever reason, don’t get promoted this season, I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw him at Elland Road next year in the Championship. He doesn’t seem to be a Premier League striker.

“You look at the three clubs that have been promoted, if you ever needed an example, that shows the gap between the Championship and the Premiership. You have to recruit wisely, not necessarily overly heavily. We look at what Ipswich have spent, you have to recruit cleverly and in the right areas with players that sometimes are tried and tested.

Sargent has fared well for Norwich this season.

“You can’t afford to take risks on players when you’re going up to the Premier League in your first season. Josh Sargent, listen, I think he’s a top-quality player, he’s a striker. He’s scored a lot of goals this season, but the Premier League is a big, big step up.

“I don’t think Leeds are in a position to take a risk on saying, we’ll give it a go this year, if we get up, we’ll sign a player that might score the goals. You’ve got to go and get somebody who’s going to get the goals for you.”

Leeds may be forced to rue winter shortcomings

Leeds were in need of a striker in January, though they failed to get one.

Now, if the Whites get promoted, that debate will be put to bed immediately, but if not, questions will emerge yet again as to why that was allowed to happen.

Six games remain for Farke’s side, and it may need to be a case of winning them all to seal an automatic return to the Premier League.
