Leeds United to sell Helder Costa for major loss after what happened at Valencia - pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson predicts Leeds United will be forced into cutting their losses on Helder Costa in the summer transfer window.

Costa, 28, joined the Whites from Wolves for a staggering £16million in July 2020 after spending the 2019/20 promotion-winning season on loan at Elland Road.

Leeds had pre-agreed that permanent fee with Wolves but the Angola international hasn’t come anywhere near to proving his worth.

Marcelo Bielsa spent the ex-Wolves winger on loan to Valencia in the summer but he’s struggled to impress there too and has played just 21 minutes in their last five La Liga fixtures.

Robinson fails to see Costa breaking into Jesse Marsch’s plans once that loan spell is over because when he returns to West Yorkshire, the winger will still have two years left on his contract.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “Costa’s gone out on loan this year and has got some length left on his contract.

Whether he’s a player who Jesse brings in and looks at in pre-season, it depends upon what formation he wants to play and what he wants going forward.

But if you look at the current squad, he’s not deemed good enough or strong enough to go into that, you’ve got to question where he’d go if he was brought back into the squad.

I don’t think they’re going to get anywhere near the money they paid for him because of the last one or two seasons he’s had.

He was poor last year and he went out of the side and he’s gone out on loan and hasn’t really done anything this year.

They’ll struggle to get any kind of money back for him so it might be the case where he starts the pre-season with Leeds and they assess the situation from there.

He wouldn’t get back in the team.”

In other Leeds United news, the Whites can finally get rid of this “stinking” 29-year-old with a free transfer likely in the summer.
