Leeds United to sell big name player as ‘nothing off the table’ – Exclusive

Leeds United, Sunderland, and Burnley will all have to work within their means in the transfer window this summer.

While the trio all have their unique financial situations, they inevitably find themselves on similar plains in the market as Premier League PSR takes hold.

Leeds and Daniel Farke are clearly targeting Premier League experience as well as young players from across Europe.

As for Sunderland and Burnley, most of the summer speculation has centered on their star players, with two already having departed.

Leeds United may have to sell asset in the transfer market

Although the 49ers have not had to sell any of their prized assets yet, Leeds did lose Manor Solomon, who returned to Tottenham after his Elland Road loan.

Their promotion chums, Sunderland, have already sold Jobe Bellingham and Tommy Watson to Borussia Dortmund and Brighton, respectively.

Football finance expert Dan Plumley has addressed whether the Peacocks would have to follow their rivals in the unforgiving transfer market.

“I think they could, nothing’s really off the table,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News when asked if Leeds could follow Sunderland and sell a big name.

“You do get this, of course, if you’re in the Championship, you’re more likely to lose those high-quality players, that’s just the way it works ultimately.

“If you’re in the Premier League, with Sunderland and what’s happening with Bellingham at the minute, you’re not in a position where you don’t necessarily have to sell, but if someone’s going to come in with a very good offer, then you still might take that.

“If you’re looking at rebalancing the squad and bringing in new players within those PSR constraints that they still have to be careful of, you might end up selling a big player for a decent fee.

“As much as you would like to keep some of them, sometimes, you do get promoted and still sell some of your biggest players.

“It depends really on the strategy moving forward for the club and how they see that progressing over the next two or three years.”

Junior Firpo the most likely Leeds star to leave Elland Road

While Leeds are not in the same position as Sunderland when it comes to selling, there is every chance they could lose players.

The most likely asset to leave Elland Road is Junior Firpo, who has interest from across the continent.

Real Betis, Atletico Madrid, and AC Milan have all been linked with the defender, while the Whites are in talks over a new deal.

As of yet, nothing has been agreed with Firpo, with his contract set to expire at the end of the month.

That could be the first of many, unfortunately.
