Leeds United to make Max Wober transfer decision ahead of August 30 deadline

Leeds United will keep Max Wober to make up the numbers on Daniel Farke’s bench unless a replacement can be signed before 30 August, Paul Robinson has said.

The 26-year-old defender has played just 63 minutes of football for Leeds since returning from his loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach, being an unused substitute against Portsmouth and West Brom.

With the Bundesliga club still interested in taking Wober back this summer [Rheinische Post], the Whites have been backed to lower their demands for a transfer [Joe Donnohue], but Robinson does not think Farke will sanction his exit.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “I see the squad quite short in that area. You look at what Leeds have done this summer, they’ve had 26 player tradings whether that be ins or outs. They’ve cleared a lot of players out of the dressing room.

“Looking at what they had left on the bench, Darlow, Byram, Wober, Crew and Gelhardt. In comparison to the squad last season, you would argue that the squad is a lot lighter. Unless other players come in, the manager will want to keep Wober purely for numbers.”

Daniel Farke to keep Max Wober at Leeds United this summer?

With Leeds only making four signings so far this summer, including a goalkeeper in Alex Cairns and Joe Rothwell on loan, it seems unlikely that a new centre-back will be acquired in the remaining days.

After Liam Cooper’s exit, Farke has just Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Wober to call upon as his centre-back options, unless he looks to Thorp Arch for some new youngsters.

Ethan Ampadu has proven his ability to drop into the backline, though that would mean taking a talent out of midfield, so selling Wober may not be an option unless a new player arrives at Elland Road soon.

In other Leeds United news, Jeff Stelling has fumed at the 49ers ahead of the August 30 deadline in a new transfer update at Elland Road.
