Leeds United to ‘accelerate Elland Road expansion’ after new reveal

Leeds United will be looking to push forward the expansion of Elland Road as soon as possible, Dan Plumley has said.

The 49ers Enterprises have plans to extend the stadium to over 50,000 capacity, with more than 20,000 fans waiting for season tickets (The Athletic).

Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted a waiting list so large makes complete sense for Leeds to push plans along ahead of a potential return to the Premier League.

“If you’re talking those kinds of numbers on the waiting list, you can see why there’s a motivation to increase capacity,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“Their matchday income was just under £30million in the 22/23 financial year, that’s about £1.5m per matchday in the Premier League season.

It’s pretty good for a club of that size and stature, but it can be boosted significantly by that expansion. You’d expect some of those new seats to be corporate hospitality, so the club can obviously charge more for those which is what a lot of clubs are doing nowadays.

You can boost that revenue even further so if you’ve got that kind of waiting list then it makes complete sense to push forward with that expansion as soon as you can.”
