Leeds United sign off smart transfer deal ahead of PSR deadline

Dan Plumley has insisted that selling loan players ahead of the PSR deadline would be smart by Leeds United after making their first move.

The Whites signed off on a £20million deal to move Luis Sinisterra to Bournemouth permanently ahead of the summer clause that was in his loan.

Other loanees have been linked with a permanent exit, and the finance expert admitted it makes sense to sell ahead of the June-to-July deadline for PSR.

“There is a risk and reward in any strategy you are pursuing,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“Following relegation, we know that squads need a bit of an overhaul, we know that Leeds had some relegation clauses in those contracts which is good financially, we know there were the loanees as well.

If you can’t sell them at that point in that time, then you can loan them out and if they are not part of the future plans, then an opportunity to sell them further down the line, especially with the June-July deadline of PSR in the background.

Add the fact that Leeds are pushing for promotion but are not quite over the line, there are multiple scenarios that can play out so it is good to have options on those loan players.

The squad composition looks very different being a Premier League club versus a Championship club and some of those players may have a home in either of those.

So, from a keeping your options open point of view, it makes relatively good business sense and there is the PSR calculation in the background that will be driving the decision making.”

Leeds United make smart moves before PSR deadline

It feels strange for the ownership group of Leeds to make smart moves, but the 49ers Enterprises are a different kettle of fish to the likes of Andrea Radrizzani.

The Italian couldn’t help himself alongside Victor Orta, and it was their management of contracts with loan clauses everywhere that put the club in a mess in the first place.

That has been smartly managed by the 49ers though, who are bringing the club back into the light.
