Leeds United set for really tricky legal case – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.

Dan Plumley has admitted it will be “really tricky” for Leeds United to win any case against Everton if they were found guilty of breaching financial rules.

Simon Jordan recently insisted the Whites and other relegated clubs from the Premier League stood no chance of winning should they sue Everton for a collective £300million [Daily Mail].

Plumley suggested that redirecting resources elsewhere may be on the table, with it hard to imagine a future in which Leeds actually win this potential lawsuit.

“It’s going to be really tricky to win that case,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“We’ve seen it with Everton last year, and it seems to be the one that has been a big sticking point with the relegated clubs over the last couple of years.

I can understand why they’re looking to pursue that, but given the clubs sign up to these agreements when they’re in the Premier League, and the TV money is coming in and it’s not a problem, I do get the sense that it’s unlikely that this case would go in favour of Leeds in the long run.

It’s not to say, it’s an absolute no and if the club feel they want to pursue it, you can understand the reasons, but I just think it’s unlikely.

If you want to redirect resources elsewhere, that is also on the table.”
