Leeds United set for ‘positive publicity’ as Will Ferrell investment update emerges at Elland Road

Will Ferrell’s involvement with Leeds United as an investor is set to give the club “positive publicity”, Paul Robinson has said.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post [5 May], the American actor has become a minority investor at the club, joining a long line of A-list celebrities at Elland Road, though he will not make any decisions.

Ferrell, who is best known for his roles in Anchorman, Elf and Step Brothers, has joined Michael Phelps Russell Crowe and Jordan Spieth as part of the group of stakeholders in the football club.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “It’ll be good. Any kind of positive publicity for the club is good, whether that be his personal interest in Leeds United or his personal investment in the business of the 49ers Enterprises. If he becomes a part of that, then fantastic.

“You look at celebrity fans… Tom Hanks was at Villa Park recently to watch Aston Villa. With the American interest in the Premier League, because they’re allowed to do so much more with their franchise and the amount of money they can put in, the league is becoming a very popular ground for American investment.”

As Robinson says, all the publicity that comes from America will only be positive for the club in the long run, and this can be seen from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s impact at Wrexham.

Of course, with the number of investors now at Elland Road, the expectations will be through the roof, meaning that Daniel Farke will need to push his team in the Championship play-off final against Southampton.

Despite the positivity surrounding the news, the initial breaking story was greeted with a very mixed reaction, as The Sun reported [4 May] that Ferrell would be buying a “large” stake in the club, which would suggest he was going to have the power to make decisions.

This is certainly not the case and will allow a lot of fans to rest easy as the American actor purchases a much smaller share at Elland Road.
