Leeds United realism called for after what Daniel Farke said in summer

Leeds United have sparked a lot of mixed reactions with their opening results this season.

With four points from as many games, Leeds are sitting at the one point per game mark, which is often enough to seal safety in the Premier League.

However, concerns have still emerged from their first few encounters, with Leeds’ attacking woes certainly at the top of the list.

With that said, the Whites have faced two sides in Champions League competitions this season, and one aspect of their campaign to date should spark more optimism than it has.

MOT Leeds News presents the exclusive opinion of iconic football commentator Ian Darke.

Draws are not going to be bad results for Leeds

Leeds remain among the favourites for relegation from the Premier League, and the fact that they have won just one game this season will do little to subdue those concerns.

However, one of their defeats was to Arsenal, and the other was a cruel 1-0 defeat to Fulham as a result of Gabriel Gudmundsson’s own goal.

There are positives, and Ian Darke has suggested that the value of a draw as a newly-promoted team should not be looked down on, when speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News.

“It’s proving a little bit tough,” Darke said.

“I think maybe built into it as well, I remember Daniel Farke saying in the summer that draws were not necessarily going to be a bad result for Leeds.

” It would keep them ticking over, and they should not underestimate the value of getting a draw, and I think they have set themselves up to be pretty tough to beat.

“So, as a little building block, it may not be the worst idea, but I think they’re finding out that it might need a little bit more than that to get the number of points they’re going to need to stay afloat.”

Saturday is one occasion when a draw would not be acceptable

You can accept a defeat to Arsenal, and you can take some positives from a cruel defeat away to Fulham.

However, you cannot cut any slack if Leeds fail to beat bottom-placed Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

If Farke is to guide this side to safety, they have to beat the teams around them, and Wolves look as though they will be one of them.

Results against teams in the top half are almost bonus points, but if you drop them to teams fighting against relegation with you, they will ultimately amount to nothing.
