Leeds United ready transfer plans with 49ers Enterprises windfall possible

Leeds United will have drawn up separate transfer plans for the Premier League and Championship as they await to find out their fate, according to Dan Plumley.

The Whites missed out on automatic promotion following defeat on the final day of the season to Southampton, and now must navigate the playoffs against Norwich before a potential final with the Saints or West Brom to go up to the Premier League.

The club’s plans for the summer transfer window are obviously being held up as a result of not knowing which division they’re in and football finance expert Plumley was asked about whether they would be making plans for both scenarios, something he was adamant would be the case.

“Yeah there absolutely will, and even if you look at the baseline numbers you’re talking £100m minimum for promotion, that’s the TV money in the Premier League,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

Little bit different for Leeds because obviously they’ve been there recently and you have to factor in net difference between parachute payments, so they will have been well off in the Championship compared to other teams.

“But even then, it’s still a significant amount of money for getting back into the Premier League and that will dictate transfer budget as much as anything, and player wages. So you need to plan for both of those eventualities.

“It is a big swing and these plans need to be made early, so yeah, for sure, Leeds will have two sets of scenarios on the table and wherever they finish up in the end, they’ll have budgets for all of those and that will dictate transfer activity in the summer.”

Leeds United being sensible in the chaos

Leeds would have been expecting to make it back to the Premier League before the March international break, where they were flying and in phenomenal form having caught Leicester at the top of the table.

But since then their form has dripped dramatically and they have won just one of their last six games to end up in third, and with a real battle on their hands to get back to the top flight.

Everyone will have their preferences about transfer targets, and they will almost entirely revolve around being back in the Premier League, but the club have to be realistic to the fact that may not happen.

So having a back-up list of targets and budgets to plan for that makes complete sense, because it means no matter what the outcome of the playoffs is the club will know their next move.

It’s sensible and common sense, so the 49ers should be praised for their calmness in the chaos of the end-of-season madness.

In other Leeds news, the 49ers were “really big” on one former Premier League manager before hiring Daniel Farke.
