Leeds United set to gamble amid latest PSR claim at Elland Road – Exclusive

Leeds United have brought four new players to Elland Road so far.

With just over a month until the Premier League campaign gets underway, Leeds are in desperate need of accelerating their summer transfer business.

So far, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Seb Bornauw, Jaka Bijol and Lukas Nmecha have made the move to Elland Road, though the Whites are yet to make a statement signing.

Several players have been linked with a move to Leeds over the last few days, but PSR may be restricting them in terms of what they can do.

Around £30million has been spent on the Leeds squad so far this summer, in comparison to the £100m+ spent at Sunderland, who, in all likelihood, will be one of the Whites’ main rivals for relegation next season.

Leeds have already failed in their attempts to bring several targets to Elland Road, and Paul Robinson thinks that PSR could potentially be playing a part.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “It’s not a lack of ambition, it’s low-balling, that’s what it is, it’s managing what budget they’ve got.

“We’re not privy to the information of the budget we’ve got, we’re not sure how tight to FFP and PSR they’re going to be, but actually, if you’re going to stay in the Premier League, you have to speculate to accumulate.

“You look at Ipswich last year, all the teams that came up last year spent heavily, but it still wasn’t enough to stay in the Premier League.

“I think Leeds have got a starting XI that’s able to cope with a Premier League challenge, but for a starting 11 that is able to stay in the Premier League, they still need more.

“£30million for the number of players that they’ve brought in is absolutely nothing. You’re not going to compete by spending £30m on four or five players. They’re going to have to speculate to accumulate at some point and take the risk.

“Yes, you can be praised for not overspending. Yes, you can be praised for cutting your cloth accordingly, as nobody than Leeds fans know better because of what happened previously, a long time ago.

“But actually, you’re going to have to take a chance in the Premier League, have a gamble, and give yourself a chance of surviving.”

Leeds need to accelerate transfer plans

There is no time to waste for Leeds now, who need to bring in players that can give them a chance at surviving in the Premier League.

The addition of a striker and a goalkeeper will be the next two priorities, though Farke will be aware of the need to bolster his squad in several areas.
