Leeds United: Promotion jackpot plays part in Georginio Rutter surgery news

Dan Plumley has insisted it is a balancing for clubs like Leeds United between pushing for promotion and putting player welfare first.

It comes after Georginio Rutter underwent surgery during the international break on a hernia issue, with only eight games to go in the Championship season.

The football finance expert admitted it would have been a joint decision in terms of the timing, with the financial price of promotion also taken into consideration.

“It’s really tricky,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“Obviously, front and centre of that is the player welfare side of things and we know especially at a club like Leeds will have a really professional set-up, the physios will be involved, the doctors will be involved and the whole medical staff will be involved and it will be a collective decision.

It will always be about what is right for the player, but there are always the financial considerations around what promotion would be worth to the club and what those key players bring to that run-in which is really important.

A little international break gives you the chance to do those things but it is really tough as you are essentially balancing that player welfare side of things with the financial price of promotion or the cost of not getting promoted.

It is a balancing act.”

Georginio Rutter injury update at Leeds United

With other injury updates not looking as positive such as Pascal Struijk, it would be brilliant to have Rutter back available at Watford and fully healed.

Daniel Farke confirmed in his latest press conference on 27 March that Rutter has reacted well to the procedure and could be involved.

In other Leeds United news, a Whites offer for Matt O’Riley is on the cards as a Celtic transfer stance emerges.
