Leeds United players face uphill battle after ‘performance of the season’ in win at Leicester City – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …

The Leeds United players who are not currently getting picked have “a lot to do” to force their way into the side after the impressive win at Leicester City last week, according to Paul Robinson.

The ex-Elland Road goalkeeper was delighted by what he considers the “performance of the season” as the Whites went to the runaway Championship leaders and halted their 10-game winning run in the second tier with a 1-0 win on 3 November.

While he sees it as nothing but a positive for Daniel Farke’s side as a whole to defeat such a “impressive” team he has tipped those on the periphery of the German’s squad to be facing a struggle to get more action considering the form of stars such as Glen Kamara and Foxes match-winner Georginio Rutter.

The Sky Sports pundit exclusively told MOT Leeds News: “Players who are not in the team have got a lot to do to get in because it’s a team that’s playing well.

“The performance at Leicester, for me, was the performance of the season. I just thought they looked strong, organised.

Let’s not forget that was a Leicester team that had 10 wins in a row, sitting top of the league and they’re there for a reason.

“They’re impressive that Leicester side, but I think Leeds went there and put a marker down, and can take a lot of confidence going forward from that.”

The hernia surgery for Pascal Struijk, revealed by Farke ahead of the visit of Plymouth Argyle, demonstrates that squad players have to be ready at a moment’s notice whatever form the starting XI might be in.

But currently it looks like only an injury issue like that or a suspension is going to open the door for those on the bench or in the stands on match days.

The first-choice line-up is very much not broken at the moment so there is little need to fix a great deal, but the hope has to be that it motivates alternatives to work all the harder to gain their manager’s attention.

In other Leeds United news, Fabrizio Romano has issued a new transfer update on a player the Whites are after with developments expected in the coming weeks.
