Leeds United plan comes at heavy cost after new ‘Nightmare’ developments – Expert

Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United have always planned to fly to each of their away games during February, with numerous long-distance trips.

The football finance expert admitted that the added heavy cost of that should not affect the club, with their budgets one of the highest in the Championship.

With trips to Plymouth twice, Swansea and Bristol this month, fans are having to tackle the “nightmare” of travel, but the squad flying allows the rest for them to perform at their highest level.

“It’s interesting digging into this one,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“It seems like the club has had that in place for a while looking at this set of fixtures, I know the cup replay was an extra one thrown into the mix which is far from ideal, but it seems like the club has had this lined up and looking to fly to those games.

There is a cost side to that and it won’t come cheap, but again, look at Leeds United’s budget compared to other Championship clubs, their budget is much higher so it becomes less of an issue.

It’s more the player rest and sleep side of things that the club is focusing on and of course, when you roll that through and I know the other side of it is the fans don’t have that luxury and have to travel with games being moved for TV and trains, that’s a bit of a nightmare.

Those fans will want to see those players perform to the best of their abilities and part of that story is how you get them in the best shape to do that and again, unfortunately, one of the ways you do that is you have to fly and make sure those players can get rest.”

With the added trip to Plymouth being added in through the FA Cup replay, the month of February became a real minefield for those in white.

Thankfully, it hasn’t affected the players too much and they are still currently unbeaten in 2024, something that is flowing through all competitions.

Daniel Farke isn’t one to complain and the fans will travel regardless, let’s hope this form can continue in those next games against Swansea and Plymouth.

In other Leeds United news, Simon Grayson has compared Farke to Marcelo Bielsa.
