Leeds United: Permanent Jack Harrison Everton transfer verdict issued after ‘sour taste’ exit

Jack Harrison left a “sour taste” when he left for Everton and Daniel Farke doesn’t look like he wants the winger back at Leeds United, says Paul Robinson.

The Englishman departed Elland Road last summer to Goodison Park on loan, amid bad feeling between the clubs over the Toffees avoiding relegation at the Whites’ expense despite a profit and sustainability charge.

But the ex-England keeper believes that is the very same reason why Sean Dyche’s side will struggle to keep hold of the 27-year-old, unless they sell some of their top assets to fund a move.

So potentially without a landing spot in West Yorkshire or on Merseyside Robinson believes there will be other transfer suitors come the summer, but pointed to the “hugely important” matter of whether Leeds United get promoted to determine what money will be involved.

He exclusively told MOT Leeds News: “Yeah it left a sour taste the way that the move came about, especially to Everton as well, but that aside I think he’s done well this season in an Everton team that’s been efficient. He plays a role in that Sean Dyche side.

“They’re clearly going to have to sell some of their better players to be able to accumulate [so] whether Jack’s one they want to accumulate once players have gone out the door [we’ll see].

“But I think others will be looking at him. It doesn’t look like Farke would want to integrate him back into a Leeds squad, and he would have a lot of work to do with the fanbase, goalscoring-wise etc., to win the fans back over.

“A move for him does look likely, but it’s hugely, hugely important as to what league Leeds are in, because he carries a different value as a Championship player than he does as a Premier League player.”

Everton have to sell best players to buy Jack Harrison from Leeds United

In the circumstances it doesn’t look especially like Harrison or Leeds are in the mood for a reunion, and the Whites haven’t missed him in the Championship.

After completing a double over league-leaders Leicester City on Friday (23 February) automatic promotion seems very realistic, and a third second-tier title is not out of the question for Farke.

But as things stand the Toffees would surely struggle to afford a permanent deal in that situation, so the former Manchester City man may have to search for yet another new home in the summer.

In other Leeds United news, one permanent Elland Road exit has already gone through and there are now more to come says Phil Hay.
