Leeds United now desperate as four to six signings to be made before deadline day

Former Leeds United midfielder David Norris says the club need around “four to six” new players in at Elland Road by 30 August.

Norris admits it is a “desperate” situation regarding the squad at Elland Road, which currently comprises just 19 senior players with only four having come into the building so far this summer.

Just £15m has been spent in the window to date by the club, compared to £139m recouped on departed stars such as Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Archie Gray.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Norris said: “I would say around four to six new signings are needed – clubs are beginning to see how desperate they are for quantity as well as quality.

“It’s not even just that some of their best players have gone as that always happens in the Championship, but injuries could prove really difficult and the cover just isn’t there.

“There have been a few players I really like that could’ve suited Leeds, but for whatever reason they have missed out.”

Leeds United situation becoming worse each day

Leeds United fans have been far from buoyant in recent weeks – and not just because they are yet to see their first win of the season, or their second-half capitulation against Middlesbrough with players Daniel Farke may be forced to use more than he would like to this campaign.

But with a high-profile name appearing to depart Elland Road in regular fashion, the significant funds have barely been reinvested into the squad – and Farke has confirmed it is very unlikely there will be any new faces before the next game against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday.

Much of the Whites fans’ ire has been directed upstairs into the boardroom, namely 49ers Enterprises. But it doesn’t appear to be for the want of trying – the club have missed out on numerous transfer targets.

Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark’s imminent eight-figure move to RB Salzburg; Bashir Humphreys’ loan to rivals Burnley being confirmed on Wednesday [Chelsea FC, 21 August]; Jonathan Rowe seemingly preferring a switch to France – there have been plenty grabbed from under Leeds’ noses, and clubs are aware of the capital the club possess.

It has now reached the point where any transfer fees will be at a considerable premium, and even any loan fees will heavily benefit the parent club.

So far on the surface, Farke does not appear to have been adequately backed – and the next nine days will go one of two ways.

In other Leeds news, questions once again arise on whether Farke is feeling the pressure at the club.
