Leeds United: No way back for Max Wober despite transfer update

Max Wober has no way back at Leeds United despite suggestions Borussia Monchengladbach may not have the financial capability to sign him permanently, Paul Robinson has said.

The Austria defender is on a season-long loan with Bundesliga outfit having utilised a clause in his contract following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League.

However, there is no permanent buy option included and Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport (17 March) that Gladbach are cash-strapped and the Wober will probably return to Leeds, who will look for a permanent buyer.

Former Leeds goalkeeper Robinson has no doubt Wober will be moved on because he feels Daniel Farke already has a squad that could cope with Premier League football should they get promoted.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said when asked about Wober: “I can’t see a way back for any of the loan players who have gone out.

“I mean the manager’s done a fantastic job this season with recruitment, with the squad they’ve got. They’ve got as strong a squad now as they’ve had in a long time that’s competing at the top of the Championship.

“I think the squad they’ve got now is able to cope with the Premier League and compete with a couple of additions.

“Wober did well, he did okay last season. But when you look at Ethan Ampadu, the possibility of Joe Rodon, I’d see him securing Joe Rodon on a contract permanently not just a loan next season as more of an important one than trying to bring back Max Wober.

“It depends what happens with Liam Cooper as well, what happens with his future and whether they need strength in depth. But none of the loan players come back and go into that starting XI.”

Is Max Wober finished at Leeds United?

None of the players who departed Leeds on loan last summer are viewed in a particularly positive light by Leeds supporters.

But Wober’s decision to move on just months after moving to Elland Road was one that particularly rankled, especially given he was one of the few who impressed in the closing months of the campaign.

It does feel now that, even if he doesn’t end up at Gladbach permanently, that there will be no second chance for Wober and why should there be?

As Robinson alludes to, surely it would make more sense to work on bringing Rodon to the club on a permanent deal. A full exit for Wober feels inevitable.

In other Leeds United news, the club could land a significant windfall if one EFL player moves on this summer.
