Leeds United need to sign new left-back in next two weeks – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has insisted that Leeds United have no option but to sign a new left-back before the new Premier League season gets underway.

The ex-Whites stopper admitted that with Junior Firpo now out until September through injury, the club now have to announce a new option in that area in the next two weeks.

Jesse Marsch has already revealed that Victor Orta and the club are looking at new players, but nothing has since been said on the matter at Elland Road.

“They have to sign a left-back,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“With his injury record and his form, they can’t go into the new season without it, I’d be very surprised if we don’t see one come in the next week or two before the new season.

“It’s a key position, they have to address it before the start. The manager was obviously keen to give Firpo a chance after his inconsistent form last year, and unfortunately for him, he’s got injured again so it leaves them with no option and he has to address it.”

No surprise.

This is a critical period of the summer now.

Leeds are hot in the market once again after their lightning start, with a new left-back on the list as well as a brand new number nine for the squad.

Firpo was set to get another chance to prove his worth, and it got off to a brilliant start with his goal and assist against Blackpool, but then it all went wrong.

Now Orta has to decide whether to spend big money or bring in a cheaper option to play as a second fiddle once Firpo returns from his issue, that is the big question.

All eyes are now on this one.
