Leeds United move for West Brom winger Grady Diangana mooted as other attacking areas required

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …

West Brom forward Grady Diangana would not be a suitable fit for Leeds United as the club have other attacking positions that need addressing first, according to Paul Robinson.

The Baggies winger has underperformed at the Hawthorns since his £18million move in 2020, having scored just six goals in the last two Championship seasons. However, the Express and Star reported (2 August) that he is of interest at Elland Road and is valued at around £7million.

Meanwhile, Leeds find themselves struggling in the opening fixtures of the Championship, needing a last-minute Crysencio Summerville equaliser to get a point against Cardiff City and succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of a last-minute Birmingham City penalty on Saturday (12 August).

However, Robinson claims that Diangana is not the profile of player Leeds should be targeting and suggests that a Patrick Bamford-esque forward would be more appropriate in solving the club’s goalscoring problems.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “There’s more to his game, but you’d expect more goals. I think at that level he’s proven he can do it in the Championship and won promotion from the Championship.

“There are elements of his game that he is lacking. Obviously, more goals and more assists are the two that stand out. But in Leeds’ system in the way that they play, he could play as a false nine.

“Willy Gnonto and Dan James played as a nine, and we’re back to struggling without Patrick Bamford. For the last 18 to 24 months, Patrick struggled to get fit and put a run of games together.

“If that’s going to be the situation going forward, rather than somebody who can maybe play as a nine, I think we have to address the situation and get another direct replacement.”

In other Leeds United news, a Premier League side could revive their interest in Tyler Adams following a failed Chelsea bid.
