Leeds United midfielder set to be ruled out of training until April end
Leeds United midfielder Sam Chambers will currently be waiting for the symptoms of his glandular fever to dissipate, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that it is not uncommon with such a setback for him to have symptoms for an extended period of time.
The 18-year-old made his senior debut for the Whites in November against Plymouth Argyle.
Chambers not expected back in training before the end of April
It’s understood that the 18-year-old will not be fit until the final weeks of May to make his first-team return, but is expected to be back in training before that.
While an exact timeframe on his training return is unclear, as things stand, it’s fair to rule him out for the rest of April.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said about Chambers: “Glandular fever is also known as mono, aka infectious mononucleosis.
Championship table (top three) | Games played | Goal difference | Points |
1 Leeds | 42 | 53 | 88 |
2 Burnley | 42 | 44 | 88 |
3 Sheffield Utd | 42 | 24 | 83 |
“The time course varies significantly but it’s not that uncommon to have symptoms for an extended amount of time.
“The recovery process is waiting for symptoms to dissipate and then he will have to rebuild his fitness.
“He is not expected to return to training this month.“

Leeds United must look to get Chambers closer to the first-team picture
To ensure Chambers develops into a regular first-team player for Leeds next season, they should implement a structured development plan.
The Whites should integrate Chambers, a versatile 18-year-old attacking midfielder, into first-team training sessions to familiarise him with Daniel Farke’s tactical demands and high-intensity pressing system.
A tailored loan to a competitive Championship club, assuming the Elland Road outfit will be in the Premier League, for the first half of the season could guarantee consistent starts, allowing him to refine his decision-making and physicality.
Leeds must also provide personalised coaching to enhance his finishing and defensive work rate.
Regular monitoring by Farke’s staff during any loan spell will ensure Chambers returns ready to compete for a starting spot by 2026.
