Leeds United make sack decision on Daniel Farke, pundit reacts – ‘I don’t think he’ll last long’
Former Leeds United man David Norris believes Leeds United have made the correct call as they appear to stick by Daniel Farke ahead of next season.
The ex-midfielder claims the German possesses a “Bielsa mentality” which can enable Leeds to achieve promotion at the second time of asking next term, amid the news that the club have opted to stand by their man.
Despite losing out on an instant Premier League return courtesy of Southampton at Wembley, Farke did accumulate 90 points for his third-placed Leeds side and that seems to have led the Whites into deciding not to sack the ex-Norwich boss.
“I think overall, he had a good season – and I think the club are right to hang onto him,” Norris exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“I know they were expected [to get promoted], but it’s a tough league. He has that stubborn [Marcelo] Bielsa mentality of sticking to playing his way which I know can get frustrating for fans, but it’s too easy to sack managers these days.
“He’ll need to start next season well. If he doesn’t, I don’t think he’ll last long into the season, but I can see Leeds being right up there.”
Farke must start strongly for Leeds United next term
Whether you think it’s fortunate for Farke to have kept his job after the main objective on his remit wasn’t achieved or it was the noble decision made by the club, it’s unmistakeable that he has to fly out of the traps next season and he’ll know only too well himself.
Navigating the summer is Leeds’ priority at this point. A huge reassembly of the squad is required at Elland Road, with several high-profile players expected to depart not only for top-level football, but also for the club to toe the line with PSR ruling.
Leeds owe over £70m in historical transfer instalments and it’s thought the club will have to recoup a considerable amount on player sales by 30 June in order not to fall foul of PSR, against which the Whites and several other Championship clubs are bidding for a new financial fair play system – even with the injection of funds through the Red Bull partnership.

Farke will also want a clearout – several loanees are expected to bowl back into Thorp Arch in the coming weeks, many of them surplus to requirements and who could bring in a decent few million to the coffers.
And just like that will come 10 August and a new, chaotic league marathon.
In other Leeds news, a replacement for Summerville for just £8.5m has been mooted.
