Leeds United lose confidence in Illan Meslier, replacements looked at
Leeds United will start to look for long-term alternatives to Illan Meslier shortly, David Norris has said.
Meslier was partly at fault as Brad Potts opened the scoring for Preston North End in the 1-1 draw at Deepdale on Saturday [14 December].
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Norris admitted many of a Leeds persuasion are no longer confident in the Frenchman after recent conversations.
“I think Meslier had started to look okay in recent games, but the people I’ve spoken to who follow Leeds more closely aren’t convinced any longer,” he said.
“Farke is likely to be considering other options now. He’s been too inconsistent and has cost the club points this season. It just doesn’t look as if they have the confidence in Meslier they once did.”
Illan Meslier loses confidence at Leeds United
Meslier has far from covered himself in glory this season, with a series of high-profile errors putting his potential longer-term future at Elland Road in doubt.
Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns make up the rest of the goalkeepers in Farke’s first-team squad, with the former Newcastle man carrying plenty of experience at Championship level.

Since joining Leeds in 2019, Meslier has been first-choice and is approaching 200 games for the club.
The Whites currently sit second in the Championship, three points behind Sheffield United as they enter a crucial Christmas period with promotion to the Premier League top of the wishlist.
In other Leeds news, a replacement is already lined up for a striker heavily expected to move in January.
