Leeds United ‘legal issue’ emerges amid 49ers takeover push at Rangers
Leeds United have had their fair share of success this season under the ownership of the 49ers Enterprises, with Rangers looking likely to be their next purchase.
As it stands, Leeds United look all but nailed on for a return back to the Premier League and the American ownership has played their part.
Since taking full control of the Whites in 2023, the 49ers have implemented various changes to get the club headed in the right direction and it seems to have paid off.
However, with a deal for Rangers on the cards, one issue in particular has emerged for Leeds.

Paul Robinson highlights one issue with Rangers takeover
While in the immediate future, the takeover is unlikely to have any effect on Leeds, it could have one further down the line if certain developments are to play out, according to Paul Robinson.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I don’t think there’s any real pros or cons to it at all.
“I think the only issue with legal reason, if they’re in a European competition together, then that could be an issue. But actually, with the dual ownership, I think the Leeds chairman, the way that the club’s been run, there was the influx of money from Red Bull as well that came in this season.
“The only hits that they’ve had, the only glint that you can see in the system with that was putting the Red Bulls on the shirt, you know, the colour changes. I think that was but it drove the sales of the second kit through the roof.
Championship top two | W | L | D | GF | GA |
Leeds United (75 points) | 22 | 9 | 3 | 71 | 22 |
Sheffield United (70 points) | 22 | 6 | 6 | 48 | 26 |
“Investment at any level is good and it just shows the power, the business network that they’ve got. And I don’t think having another club, you know, the likes of Rangers is going to be an issue to Leeds in any way, shape or form whether there’ll be player trading going each way. But then you look at the players that are in the Rangers side at the moment.
“Would any of the players from Rangers get into the Leeds United side in the Championship? You would question that. But maybe it would work the other way with players going on loan.”

49ers set for first real Leeds United test
While promotion has to be achieved first, Leeds will need some serious and smart investment in the summer to have any chance of competing in the Premier League and based on the links to Tammy Abraham, they appear aware of that.
The gulf in quality between the two divisions is growing with every season, and without that investment and decision-making, Leeds will inevitably fall right back down into the Championship.
It will provide the 49ers with their first big test since assuming full ownership of the club two years ago.
