Leeds United hit by ‘Poor’ controversy v Preston after what happened

Preston midfielder Ben Whiteman should have been sent off against Leeds United on Saturday, Keith Hackett has said.

The Whites rescued a late 1-1 draw at Deepdale on 14 December but could have been playing against 10 men for more than an hour after an awful challenge on Jayden Bogle.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, the ex-PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee could not believe the decision after the footage was spread around.

“On the Preston challenge that should have seen red,” he said.

“The follow through and then a straightening of the leg endangered the safety of his opponent and had force by the action of him clearing the ball.

“The player already on a yellow should have received a second yellow followed by a red card. It was a reckless challenge.

It was another afternoon where Leeds fans were forced to watch slow football and terrible officiating away from home in the Championship.

Daniel Farke admitted that he received plenty of apology letters from the PGMOL last season, and it looks as though he will be getting another.

How a professional referee cannot make a decision like this after giving the foul, is beyond everyone, and it’s that terrible officiating that has seen Howard Webb and others face serious pressure.

In other Leeds United news, Preston were guilty of a teamsheet blunder ahead of their clash against the Whites.
